What you don't know can hurt you.

What is Mold and Mildew?
What do they have in common?

Mold mold is a fungi thats made up of tiny microscopic cells called spores. Mold is a part of the environment that helps break down dead materials. Mold live off moisture, nutrients and a suitable place to grow.

Mold spores can travel easily in the air, they are like tiny seeds, living spores when in the right conditions can grow in colonies. It definitely need moisture to keep growing.

What are some dangers? Mold found growing in your window sills, A/C unit or other places are bad enough but any time mold starts growing indoors it becomes a big concern. Not only can health problems occur, building materials, goods and furnishings may become damaged.

Mold can effect the health of those who may become exposed to it mainly when it is breathed or exposed through skin contact.  The severity of health effects are not easily topredict. From one person to another or place to place. The most common is allergy like symptoms and sinus but others such as skin irritation and upper respiratory and sore throats.

Those who should be more caughteous are young children, infants, elderly and those with special health concerns because some molds can produce a type of chemical called mycotoxins, this is not so much the case with indoor mold but all mold is harmful and should be removed promptly.

Mildew Now mildew on the other hand is messy, smelly but not harmful. Mildew is also a spore producing fungi and grows in differnt kinds of conditions. Moisture is its main source like mold. Mildew can be very damaging to materials,  goods and furnishings because it also carries with it a substance than leaves stains.

Good news there is a way to fight back these two fungi. There are safe ways and there are painful ways.  Most rely on bleach but bleach is not the best product. Why? Bleach may kill it but you can't use bleach on everything also it leaves a stain. Call an expert for the best way to rid mold and mildew.
